(HalalHub.vn) – On 29 October 2026, Malaysian authorities raided a warehouse in Puchong, Selangor, seizing approximately 6,555 kg of raw chicken suspected of having been slaughtered and processed without meeting Halal requirements, and detaining 12 foreign workers. The case shows that Malaysia monitors Halal compliance both during certification and in the distribution chain.

What happened
According to Bernama and The Sun, authorities seized 468 packages of raw chicken weighing approximately 6,555 kg and worth around RM85,400, or nearly VND500 million. The shipment was suspected of having been slaughtered and processed without complying with Islamic slaughter requirements and Halal certification standards. Twelve foreign workers allegedly involved in slaughtering and processing at the facility were detained.
The operation involved JAKIM, the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS), the Department of Environment and the Petaling District Health Office. Malay-language media reported that the case was being investigated under the Trade Descriptions (Definition of Halal) Order 2011 and the Environmental Quality Act 1974.
🔎 NOTE ON THE REPORTING Some Malaysian newspapers reported allegations that chickens were scalded to death before slaughter. This remains a matter under investigation, rather than an official finding. Halal requirements stipulate that the animal must be alive at slaughter; an animal that dies beforehand is not considered Halal.

Not the first case this year
In April 2026, Malaysian police also seized non-Halal chicken and pork worth approximately RM1.5 million in Kampung Baru Subang and detained 32 people, according to Malay Mail. Following the Puchong raid, a Malaysian lawmaker urged authorities to name the company involved, according to the New Straits Times.
📌 KEY POINTS Post-certification controls: Malaysia inspects warehouses, slaughterhouses and goods in circulation. Slaughter is the highest-risk stage for poultry. Reputational risk: public pressure is calling for the company involved to be named.
🇻🇳 WHAT THIS MEANS FOR BUSINESSES Certification is only the beginning. Vietnamese businesses exporting food to Malaysia or supplying restaurants and hotels serving Muslim guests must demonstrate Halal compliance at every stage: ingredients, slaughter, storage and transport. An incident involving one partner can also damage the reputation of the entire chain.
