With strengths in coffee, pepper, macadamia nuts, passion fruit, fruit and cocoa, Vietnam’s Central Highlands has considerable potential to develop products for Halal markets. To turn this potential into business opportunities, Halal Hub Vietnam (HHV) proposes an approach connecting local supply, processing capacity, product standardization and international buyers.

From raw-material strengths to products buyers trust
In the presentation “Halal – A New Gateway for Central Highlands Agricultural Products”, delivered by Le Thi Thanh Thuy (Iris Le), International Relations Director of Halal Hub Vietnam, HHV focuses on increasing agricultural value through suitable product selection and market-oriented preparation.
Six priority product groups are proposed: coffee, pepper, macadamia nuts, passion fruit, fruit and cocoa. From these raw materials, businesses can explore roasted and ground coffee, instant coffee, blended seasonings, packaged nutritious nuts, juices, dried or frozen fruit, cocoa powder and chocolate.
Each product should be developed around buyer demand, ingredient requirements, production processes and traceability. Further processing, branding and quality standardization can help businesses increase value and gradually establish a market position.
HHV encourages businesses to selectively approach markets such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, while considering suitable opportunities in South Asia, Africa and Europe. Selection should be based on each business’s products and actual capabilities.

Preparing for Halal across products and the entire supply chain
The presentation’s central message is that Halal should be incorporated into product strategy and operations from the outset.
Preparation includes reviewing ingredient origins, components, additives, production processes, hygiene, packaging, storage and transport. Shipment documentation and traceability should also be clearly organized to establish a reliable foundation for partners.
For processed products, businesses should pay particular attention to formulations, flavorings and processing aids. Specific requirements must be determined for each product, target market and accepted certification body.
| 💡 THE FIRST QUESTION BUSINESSES SHOULD ASK Who will buy our products, and what must we prepare to meet that buyer’s needs? Clear commercial objectives provide a more concrete basis for investment in standardization and certification. |

HHV connects and coordinates the Halal value chain
In its proposed cooperation with the Central Highlands, HHV positions itself as a bridge linking local businesses, cooperatives, raw-material areas and factories with specialist organizations, importers, distributors and international investment partners.
This role is expressed through five activity groups:
Identifying opportunities: helping define products, customers and target markets.
Halal preparation: connecting experts to review requirements, standards and documentation.
Value-chain links: promoting coordination between raw-material areas, processing, traceability, storage and logistics.
Expanding market access: facilitating business matching, sample introductions and distribution connections.
Promoting investment: seeking suitable partners to upgrade processing and supply capabilities.
| ℹ️ CLARIFYING ROLES HHV coordinates, connects and promotes cooperation. Assessment and certification are undertaken by certification bodies appropriate to the market’s requirements. |
This approach aims to form a connected chain with clear responsibilities, in which each party contributes its strengths to improve market access together.

Three proposed cooperation programs for the Central Highlands
To translate this direction into action, HHV proposes three cooperation programs based on businesses’ needs and readiness.
| Program | Content |
| 1. Mapping supply | Survey businesses, cooperatives, product groups and processing capabilities, and compare them with buyer needs. The intended outcome is a list of promising products and businesses to guide support activities. |
| 2. Halal readiness | Explain requirements, assess areas businesses need to improve, and connect appropriate experts and certification bodies. The aim is a tailored standardization plan for each business, aligned with its selected products and markets. |
| 3. Trade promotion | Develop business meetings, sample introductions and importer connections, and seek cooperation opportunities in processing, logistics, distribution and investment. |
The programs are proposed on the basis of coordination among local authorities, associations, businesses and HHV. Scope and timing will be agreed according to actual needs, agreements and resources.
Opening new development opportunities for Central Highlands agriculture together
Entering Halal markets offers Central Highlands businesses an opportunity to review capabilities, improve quality and develop long-term trade relationships. A starting point can be one priority product, one suitable market and a clear preparation plan.
HHV hopes to accompany local authorities, associations, cooperatives and businesses on this journey, connecting the Central Highlands’ agricultural strengths with expertise, resources and international market opportunities.
