(HalalHub.vn) – On the morning of 27 October 2026, the international workshop “International Experience and the Potential for Developing Halal Tourism in Da Nang” brought together more than 100 delegates, experts and businesses. The bottleneck was clear: the city attracts large numbers of international visitors, but its food, accommodation and services for Muslim travelers remain insufficient.

Many international visitors, relatively few Muslim travelers

The workshop was organized by the Institute of South Asian, West Asian and African Studies under the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, together with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Cultural Diplomacy under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Da Nang’s Department of Science and Technology and Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, with support from Informa Markets Vietnam, according to the workshop backdrop.

According to figures presented at the workshop, Da Nang welcomed 7.6 million international visitor arrivals in 2025, but Muslim visitor numbers remained modest. The main reason was that food, accommodation and specialized services did not fully meet their needs. According to Da Nang Newspaper, by October 2026 the city had nearly 30 restaurants offering Halal food, Indian cuisine or services catering to Muslim guests.

“Developing this segment not only opens opportunities to attract international visitors but also helps connect tourism with trade, cuisine, accommodation, shopping and related services.” – Nguyen Thi Anh Thi, Vice Chairwoman of the Da Nang People’s Committee, as reported by The World & Vietnam Report.

Experience from Malaysia, Singapore and Pakistan

Delegates shared Muslim-friendly tourism development experience from Malaysia, Singapore and Pakistan, proposing solutions in three areas: product development, workforce training and business connections. Pakistan’s Ambassador to Vietnam, Kohdayar Marri, said Vietnam had substantial potential for Halal tourism and suggested Halal food festivals and promotions for Muslim travelers. The discussion session “Prospects for Halal Tourism Development in Da Nang” also included Da Nang Tourism Association Chairman Cao Tri Dung and representatives of hotels and travel businesses.

Da Nang is encouraging and guiding accommodation providers, restaurants and travel businesses to apply TCVN 14230:2024, Vietnam’s national standard for Muslim-friendly tourism services.

📌 KEY POINTS
The bottleneck is food, accommodation and specialized services, rather than international visitor numbers.
Applicable standard: TCVN 14230:2024 for Muslim-friendly tourism services.
Three solution areas: products, workforce and business connections.

🇻🇳 WHAT THIS MEANS FOR BUSINESSES
Demand for services is outpacing supply capacity. Restaurants and hotels serving Muslim guests need Halal-certified ingredients and clearly segregated procedures. This creates opportunities both for certified food suppliers and for service providers investing early in TCVN 14230:2024.

Glossary

Halal tourism / Muslim-friendly tourism: tourism services meeting Muslim travelers’ needs, including Halal food, prayer spaces and appropriate facilities and services.

TCVN 14230:2024: Vietnam’s national standard for Muslim-friendly tourism services.

Halal certification: confirmation by a certification body that a product or service meets Halal requirements under a particular standard.
